Commission's new hydraulic fracturng chemical disclosure rules take effect

"Our members were supportive of the bill, we think it's the right thing to do. Transparency is good and we think being transparent will help dispel some of the myths around hydraulic fracturing. Fracturing has become an overused, misused word."

Nye said many Texas operators werealready voluntarily reporting hydraulic fracturing chemicals since the FracFocus website went live on April 1, 2011. "In fact," she said, "as of January 31, 2012, of the 10,914 total wells nationwide voluntarily reporting disclosures on the FracFocus website, 4,169 of the wells are in Texas."

Percentage doesn't need to be disclosed but by not saying WHAT they use in that "proprietory blend" they set themselves up for this. If I don't want to drink a particular soft drink, that's my personal choice. However, I don't have a choice when my water is being contaminated by the fracking and I have no way to change that or opt out--esp. if fracking doesn't occur on my own property.

For example they won't report on 99% which are safely performing but will blast the airways & publications with the 1, or the 1% that are at fault.

So hopefully if they can't complain about hiding the composition of the fraking compounds it will alleviate some leverage of those opposed. It needs to be followed up with a ban on injecting toxic chemicals into the ground. We can have good wells and win 1000 times but just one bad well in the wrong place and we’re screwed.
