Hydropower is finite.
EVs will get some of those off-line and unfinished nuclear reactors back on-line.

I applaud Tennessee for their efforts to encourage alternatives to gas.
And yes, SVmike, you are correct. Sometimes, the government is important to get things going (like, for example, the INternet).

Mac48: "If EVs are a good idea, they will be successful on their own merit & do not need any artificial governmental incentive at the Federal or state lEVel. "
In principal I think I agree with you. However, the installed base of gas cars makes it very difficult for any kind of alternative even if it is the best thing to do long term. It is a bit of an extra risk for anyone to do something different. For example, roadside assistance will be more difficult, finding a place to get a re-charge is harder...while finding a gas station or a tow truck is easy. So maybe EVs are a good idea or not. Any new/different technology is going up against the fact that 99% of the population uses something different.
And we send huge amounts of money to countries that are not our friends in order to sustain this. If incentives get 10-20% of us to not be using foriegn oil it is well worth it, IMO.

That's the beauty of renewable energy. Use all you want. We'll make more. And there won't be carbon emissions and pollution. EVs will be good for the TVA hydropower system.

If EVs are a good idea, they will be successful on their own merit & do not need any artificial governmental incentive at the Federal or state lEVel. The credits being offered for EVs almost says that the EV concept is not a good idea & must have tax payer assistance to EVen enter the market.
If I were a citizen of Tennessee and if the state finances were not in excellent shape, I would be letting the governor know that his proposed state funded EV tax rebate is a waste of state funds.

If that is what it takes to get more people to prove or disprove the potential of EVs, then that is great. If the EV market pans out, then Tennessee will do well since a battery factory is located in that state.

Electric cars are the way to go and will use electricity made in the USA, not imported oil! This will keep dollars in the USA where they can do us some good.

Wow! Tennessee must have all kinds of extra money laying around like we do here in Minnesota, oh wait, we're Billions short of what we need to keep the lights on!
